George, the heart of the Garden Route, is the ideal base for sport lovers, nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, or for those visitors who just want to relax.
George is situated in the heart of the Garden Route, almost equal distance between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth (approx. 425km). It is an ideal location from which to explore the Garden Route. Alternatively, you can explore what George itself has to offer.
Golf is a favourite past time of many visitors to George, and locals alike. There are many golf courses in the area, including, Fancourt, Mossel Bay, George Golf Club, Pezula, Simola and of course, Oubaai.
Canoeing, horseriding, fishing, surfing, cycling, hiking, bird watching, and beautiful beaches are all available within easy reach of Fairwood at Oubaai.
Herold’s Bay is only 2km from Oubaai Golf Estate and is popular with surfers and those who like to cast a line. There are two tidal pools and plenty of rock pools to keep occupy the children.
Victoria Bay is approx. 15 km East along the N2 highway. It is a picturesque bay where you can relax on the beach, fish, surf and swim.
In the opposite direction is Glentana, a breath taking stretch of beach. During the right season you will be able to view dolphins and whales.

George Botanical Gardens, and Museum are close to George Town Centre.

Outdshoorn is situated in the Klein Karoo 55 kms inland from George. Here you will be able to visit Ostrich Farms, Cango Wildlife Ranch and Cango Caves. It also hosts the popular annual Klein Karoo Arts Festival during March/April.
Knysna is a picturesque town and is situated around a lagoon. The inlet to the lagoon is known as ‘The Heads’ and is well worth a visit, or a boat trip can be taken from the waterfront area. Other venues in the area include:

The 216-metre Bloukrans Bridge (The highest commercial bungee jump in the world) attracts adventure-seekers from all around the world, and is less than an hour west of George.
